Private Seller's guide

If you are willing to put in the extra effort, there's no reason why you can't try and sell your home privately - and keep more of the cash! There are several ways of doing this:-

Advertise

You can advertise your property in a number of places:- the local press, newsagents and other local shops, work notice boards etc. You may also want to buy or make your own "For Sale" sign.

Use the internet

There are a number of UK property sites around to market your property commission-free. The House Gallery is your local internet advertising company and we can help by advertising your property on-line to a targeted audience in Rugby and its surrounding area. Our easy-to-use and comprehensive website is promoted by eye-catching weekly adverts in the Property section of local papers. You will need to provide a contact number or e-mail address in your property advert so that potential buyers can contact you directly.

Over half (55%) of households in Great Britain are now online (Source: National Statistics, May 2005). The internet is, increasingly, people's preferred method of searching for properties and associated services.  A survey carried out by property internet site "Estate Angels" showed that 88.6% of respondents use the internet to search for properties - source: Estate Agency News, March 2004, Bob North).

Double up

You can market your property privately and through an Estate Agent at the same time. If you sell your property first, you don't pay the agent anything (see our FAQ's section)
